Hello Winooski, I am happy to bring you my first Housing Commission update as Mayor/liaison to the commission. The Housing Commission meets on the 4th Monday of every month. The commission has been discussing both a Housing Trust Fund and Inclusionary Zoning over the past few months and decided to focus on fleshing out policy and procedure for a new Winooski Housing Trust Fund in the near term, and revisit the Inclusionary Zoning after that.
The Housing Trust Fund is meant to help develop new, and rehab existing, affordable housing as well as support low to moderate income residents with home improvement and down payment assistance. Commission members spent time discussing the goals of the fund such as: What ratio of funding should there be for homeownership versus rental housing? Discussion also took place around the actual guidelines that need to be in place to ensure the fund supports those goals, for example: What should be a maximum awarded amount? What restrictions should exist for applicants?
