Here is your monthly update on the work of the Winooski Housing Commission, a resident-driven body that helps the City Council make policy decisions that impact local housing. At last week’s meeting (they meet the 4th Monday of every month) the commission continued to dig into the details of our City’s Housing Trust Fund.
The Housing Trust Fund is meant to help develop new, and rehab existing, affordable housing as well as support low to moderate income residents with home improvement loans and down payment assistance. This month’s meeting focused on what criteria should be used to evaluate applications, and how to ensure the criteria promote projects that meet our housing goals. The discussion identified 3 primary goals for this fund, which are to encourage safer housing, home ownership, and diversification of our neighborhoods. The commission let those goals drive how we would weight criteria to favor applications that meet those goals.
The Housing Commission will continue work on this program in their next meeting. View the draft documents linked in the meeting agenda.
