1. How much does a dog license cost?

Before April 1:
Neutered/Spayed Dog - $14.00
Un-Neutered/Spayed - $18.00

After April 1:
Neutered/Spayed Dog - $16.00
Un-Neutered/Spayed - $22.00

2. Do I have to license my dog every year?

Yes. Licensing provides the City with a method of ensuring that dogs are properly vaccinated against rabies. Additionally, dog owners receive great value from a license in that authorities make every effort to return lost dogs to their owners when the dog is wearing a current tag. Other dogs that are not licensed are transported to an animal shelter where impounding and boarding fees are charged.

3. Does the City have leash laws?

Yes. Please see Section 3.12 of our Municipal Code -  "Leashes and collars required; dogs running at large". 

4. What can I do about an animal related problem?

If you have an animal related problem, please contact the non-emergency line at the Winooski Police Department (802 655 0221) to get in touch with our Animal Control Officer.

1. What does the Main Street Revitalization Project include?

The Main Street Revitalization project includes the complete modernization of infrastructure on Main Street between the rail bridge and the City line at Exit 16. This includes:

• New water, stormwater, and wastewater utility infrastructure
• Improved pedestrian and bike amenities
• Undergrounding the telecom and cable lines
• Rebuilt sidewalks and streetscapes

These plans reflect the community’s vision as presented during the Form-Based Code community meetings, the development of the Winooski Transportation Master Plan, and the Winooski Corridor Study. They also include the necessary and inevitable infrastructure improvements needed to the City’s water and wastewater lines, these lines along Main Street are 130 years old.

2. What does the project cost?

The total cost of this project is $23 million. If funded solely by Winooski tax and utility payers, the impact of this project would be a 16% increase in property taxes and a 10% and 25% increase in water and wastewater rates respectively. With State and Federal subsidies that this bond vote allows us to consider, water and sewer rate impacts may be limited to a 2.5% increase. With new revenues streams considered, we have modeled that the property tax and utility rate increases could be contained at increases between 2.5% and 4%.

3. Why is this City holding the Main Street Revitalization bond vote now?

This bond vote allows the City to move forward with State and Federal applications for outside funding and will enable the City Council to consider a total financing package for the project over the summer and fall. In order to understand the full subsidy the State and Federal partners can offer the City, the funders need to see that the community is behind this project.

1. Who can get married in Vermont?

You must be at least 18 to marry in Vermont (16 or over with the consent of a parent/legal guardian).

2. Are there any restrictions?

Previously married applicants must provide a certified copy of a divorce decree or a certified death certificate to obtain a new marriage license.

3. Where can we get married?

A Vermont license is good for marriage in the State of Vermont only. Vermont residents may marry anywhere in the state of Vermont, however you must obtain your marriage license in the town that either one of you reside in. If neither party is a Vermont resident, you may obtain the license from any town clerk in the state.

4. Who can marry us?

A judge, supreme court justice, assistant judge, justice of the peace or an ordained or licensed minister, rabbi or priest residing in VT can perform your ceremony.

5. What do we do with the license?

The license must be given to the officiant who will conduct your wedding ceremony.

6. How do we get a copy?

After the ceremony the officiant will complete the sections concerning the date, place, and officiant of your ceremony, the officiant must than return it to the Town Clerk’s office where it was issued within 10 days. The license becomes official after it has been recorded in the Town Clerk’s office where it was purchased.

1. What is the proposed cost of the pool project?

After completing preliminary engineering, the cost is $3.92 million. This is the value approved by the Council to send to a bond vote in August 2018.

2. How many years will it take to pay off the bond?

The Myers Memorial Pool Renovation Project Bond would be a 20-year bond.

3. What would the additional property tax increase be?

If funded solely by Winooski taxpayers, the impact of this project could be up to a $0.082 increase in property taxes (an estimated $185.49 annual increase on a $225,000 home).

4. What is the estimated cost of operation for the new pool for a year?

The City estimates that it would cost approximately $83,000 to operate in the first year of operations.

5. How many months of the year will the pool be open?

Historically, the Pool has been open from the end of June through August.

6. How much gross income will be produced by the pool?

The City is modeling that the gross income annually would be $12,500.
